Within the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme, project BASCIL, partners from eight countries across rural areas of the Baltic Sea region worked together with a shared ambition – to support local food producers in developing sustainable culinary tourism services. Over three years, the project brought together producers, experts, and local stakeholders to explore new ways of combining food production with tourism, strengthening short value chains and creating authentic visitor experiences rooted in local traditions.
Although the BASCIL project has formally come to an end, its impact continues. The knowledge, tools, and networks developed during the project will keep inspiring rural food and drink businesses to innovate, adapt, and grow. By linking culinary heritage with tourism, BASCIL has shown how local traditions can be preserved while also supporting stronger businesses and more vibrant rural communities. The project was funded by the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme, and its results will continue to contribute to sustainable rural development across the region.
