Participation in the 21st ERDN Scientific Conference in Romania

Živilė Gedminaitė-Raudonė, Principal Researcher, and Genovaitė Beniulienė, Doctoral Student at the Lithuanian Centre for Social Sciences, Institute of Economics and Rural Development, participated in the 21st scientific conference of the European Rural Development Network (ERDN) – “Food Systems Transition for Sustainable Rural Development”, held on 23–25 September 2025 in Bucharest, Romania.

The event gathered around 80 researchers from more than 10 countries, creating a platform for exchanging scientific insights on sustainable rural development, food system transitions, and regional innovation.

 

During the conference, Živilė Gedminaitė-Raudonė presented research on culinary tourism as a pathway to sustainable rural development and the potential for developing short food supply chains based on the INTERREG Baltic Sea Region 2021-2027 project “BASCIL - Innovative Solutions for the Rural Food Production Sector to Diversify into Sustainable Culinary Tourism Services“. Genovaitė Beniulienė delivered a presentation on the impact of rural development support on the agricultural and food sector, as well as regional development, illustrated through the Lithuanian case.

 

The conference featured rich thematic discussions, highlighting innovative approaches to transforming the food system. Participation in this event strengthened the international visibility of Lithuanian research and fostered valuable professional connections with scholars from across Europe.
