Climate change: influence on agriculture and forestry in Lithuania (in Lithuanian language)

Adaptation opportunities to the climate change of agriculture and forestry business should be analyzed in greater details because these two sectors are particularly vulnerable to the climate change. The article present results of research performed by Lithuanian Institute of Agrarian Economics on the most significant threats and opportunities of Lithuanian agriculture and forestry related with climate change. Value chain model used for this research helped to reveal all activities by which a good or service in agriculture and forestry business sector is produced, distributed and marketed and climate change impact on each of these activities. Qualitative research methods were used for this research: the value chain analysis, analysis of strategic business activities in agriculture and forestry, sensitivity of each step of technological process to the climate change, comparative analysis, generalisation of experience and focus group discussion. The most important external factors affecting Lithuanian agriculture and forestry were identified by using these research methods. These factors should be on the focus in the process of the strategic risk management strategy formulation for Lithuanian agriculture and forestry sectors used by farmers and national policy makers.
