To compare with EU-25 countries, in Lithuania is relatively large share of the employed in agricultural sector and it suppose cooperation to be as a very important part of agricultural sector of economy, but it is not so. Cooperation in other EU countries is much more developed than in Lithuania. Situation is really paradoxical - we all the time stress the benefits of cooperation, particularly for small farmers (the government provides support for developing favorable legal environment for cooperation, the tax concessions are applied), but at the same time, it is noted that the extent of cooperation in agricultural sector is still not sufficient in Lithuania. Article presents the results of the research of motivation for cooperation conducted in LIAE in 2008-2009. The aim of article was to find out the answers why cooperation process is slow in Lithuania, to compare attitudes towards cooperation of two groups of farmers - cooperative members and non-cooperated farmers - their motivation to cooperate, to find out main reasons and motives. The method of the research - questionnaire. By means of questionnaire, motivation and the attitudes (benefits of cooperation, factors, which stimulate cooperation, the demand of cooperation) for cooperation of cooperatives members and non-cooperated farmers were valued, also the reasons why farmers don’t cooperate.
