Motives and barriers of using innovations by Lithuanian farmers (in Lithuanian language)

Changing food consumption patterns have influenced market share in food production. More consumers are requesting high nutritional value products, natural food and food products supporting health. These changes increased the role of innovations in agriculture in post-industrial development stage. Organizational innovations play the most important role by helping to form new local food market. Lithuanian Institute of Agrarian Economics in 2012 conducted a research based on the survey on innovations in Lithuanian agriculture. 1100 respondents participated in the survey. Data analysis was used to identify motives and barriers for applying innovations at the farms, to define overall level of innovations in agriculture and how various institutions as research, business and public institutions contribute to spreading innovation techniques. The research results revealed that motivation and barriers for applying innovation differs at the farms implementing cost leadership or differentiation strategy. Policy makers of the innovation policy should differentiate policy measures based on the competitive strategies used in the farm.
