Simulation of organic agricultural production in less favoured areas (In Lithuanian language)

Findings of the survey on the development of organic farming carried out by the Lithuanian Institute of Agrarian Economics in 2007-2008 are summarised in the article providing scientifically reasoned models of optimal organic production farms by farming types taking into consideration the peculiarities of less favourable areas (LFA). It has been established that agricultural production released in Lithuanian organic farms is produced at a lower cost than in the organic farms of the EU 25 member states (2006), however, due to little investments into modernization of the farms and very extensive farming, the yield, of organic agricultural production per ha is by 3 times less. It has been substantiated referring to the developed models of optimal organic production farms by farming types In LFA, that Lithuanian organic farms may achieve better production and economic indicators by using better their internal reserves (applying rational crop rotation and optimal structure of production branches): the common agricultural and commercial production per ha may be increased by 1.5 times and the net value added - by 30%, and the receivable profit in larger than 20 ha organic farms would ensure their economic development and stability.

Keywords: organic farming, models of optimal production farms, production value, net value added, subsidies.
