The competitiveness of Lithuanian potato sector in the European union market (In Lithuanian language)

The article presents analyze of Lithuanian potato sector tendencies over the recent years: changes in production, selling and consumption; review of Lithuanian potato sector position in the context of EU and evaluation its level of competitiveness in EU market. Competitiveness of potato sector has been evaluated using production dynamics, price level, foreign trade level, self-sufficient and consumption indicators. According to these chosen indicators comparison with EU countries is presented and the level of competitiveness of Lithuanian potato sector is evaluated. The analysis was done by using data for the period of 2004-2007 received from Department of Statistics to the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, Eurostat, Faostat and United Nations Commodity Trade Statistics Database. The performed research revealed that the Lithuanian potato sector is of a medium competitiveness level. The potato price in Lithuania, compared with EU countries, is average. Production dynamics is low, but consumption is high, foreign trade and self-sufficient levels are medium.
