The Chamber of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania together with the Institute of Economics and Rural Development of the Lithuanian Centre for Social Sciences and six farmers implemented the European Innovation Partnership (EIP) project ‘Development and implementation of a system of short supply chains using local agricultural products in the public sector’. This project contributed to the implementation of the Farm to Fork Strategy and accumulated knowledge about the key challenges, hindering the development of distribution channels that connect local small and medium-sized farmers with contracting authorities.
The project aimed to establish and implement a model that would allow agricultural entities to supply locally produced products to public sector institutions (schools, kindergartens, nursing homes, etc.). The project team developed and tested the model. Economic, environmental, and social impacts of the innovation were introduced in the case study.
The project was carried out in a framework of the Rural Development Programme for 2014-2020 and received funding from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development under the Grant Agreement No. 35BV-KK-20-1-11413-PR001.
