International project "Fast methods for authentication of organic plant based foods" of CORE ORGANIC II ERA-NET programme

Early in October this year, Lithuanian Institute of Agrarian Economics initiated international European Communities scientific research, technological development and pilot ERA-NET Project "Fast methods for authentication of organic plant based foods" (AuthenticFood) financed by the 7th framework programme CORE ORGANIC II. The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania is in charge of the Project administration together with institutions of other countries. The Project is implemented in cooperation with partners from the Czech Republic, Denmark, Italy, the United Kingdom, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Norway, France, Finland, and Germany. University of Copenhagen is the coordinator of the Project.

The objective of the Project is to systematically assess the key methods of organic foodstuff quality and identification following Council Regulation (EC) No. 834/2007. The Project anticipates familiarizing with application possibilities of multidimensional testing analysis in the research of organic and conventional products (wheat/pasta and tomatoes/ketchup), identification and applicability assessment of fast testing methods. This would facilitate more accurate and faster authentication of organic products by national inspections and certification bodies increasing consumer confidence in the organic products market and strengthening coherence of the organic sector.

First stage Project activities are ongoing. Project duration is 36 months.
